What's Inside Aerwyna Shampoo Bars and Conditioner Bars — and Why It Matters

You've seen the INCI list. You've probably wondered what half of it means. Here's a plain-language breakdown of what's inside Aerwyna's shampoo and conditioner bars — where each ingredient comes from and why it's there.

The Shampoo Bar

The shampoo bar is built on five plant-based surfactants. Surfactants are the cleansing agents in shampoo — the ingredients that grab dirt and oil and release them when you rinse. Aerwyna uses five because different surfactants work better together than any one does alone. Together they produce a rich lather, clean effectively, and leave the scalp in better condition than harsh single-surfactant formulas.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate — derived from coconuts. The lead cleanser in the bar. Very mild — gentle enough that it's frequently used in baby products — but highly effective at removing dirt, excess sebum, and environmental buildup without stripping the scalp's protective oils.

Cocomidopropyl Betaine — also from coconuts. Boosts the effectiveness of the other surfactants and improves overall mildness. Another common ingredient in gentle baby formulas.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate — coconut-derived and Ecocert certified. Not to be confused with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate — this is a gentler compound that produces good lather without the harshness.

Decyl Glucoside — derived from 100% renewable plants and glucose (sugar). One of the gentlest surfactants available, frequently used in sensitive-skin formulations.

Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate — coconut-based. Responsible for the rich, voluminous lather that makes the bar feel like it's working.

Beyond the surfactants, the shampoo bar contains conditioning agents that go to work while you clean. Jojoba oil is structurally similar to your scalp's own sebum — your scalp recognizes it and responds to it. Panthenol (vitamin B5) penetrates the hair shaft and improves moisture retention over time. Allantoin soothes the scalp. Cetrimonium chloride and stearamidopropyl dimethylamine condition and smooth the hair cuticle after cleansing.

The Conditioner Bar

Where the shampoo bar cleans, the conditioner bar restores. It's built on butters and oils that penetrate the hair shaft rather than sit on top of it — which is the difference between hair that's actually conditioned and hair that just feels coated until the next wash.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate — a conditioning agent derived from rapeseed oil. Detangles without buildup and is gentle enough for sensitive scalps.

Murumuru Butter — from the seeds of the Astrocaryum murumuru palm in the Amazon. Melts at body temperature and absorbs quickly. Adds softness and shine without heaviness.

Sal Butter — from Shorea Robusta seeds, grown in South Asia. Penetrates the cuticle and improves flexibility and suppleness of the hair shaft from the inside.

Coconut Oil — present in most good conditioners for good reason. It's one of the few oils that actually penetrates the hair shaft rather than coating it.

Hydrolyzed Rice Protein — adds strength and volume. Fills gaps in damaged hair cuticles without weighing the hair down.

Panthenol (Vitamin B5) — penetrates the hair shaft and improves moisture retention. Present in both the shampoo and conditioner bars because hair deserves it at every step.
